Durham Ballet Theatre brings “Aladdin” to life at the Carolina Theatre May 16!
Unlike popular film versions of the story, this ballet is based on the original Middle Eastern oral folktales first preserved in writing by Antoine Galland in 1710, which set the story in China amidst the dazzling multicultural markets of the Silk Road.
In this story, Aladdin meets a mysterious stranger who shows him a wondrous cave full of exquisite dancing gemstones and a humble, battered lamp that may be the richest treasure of them all. This begins a thrilling adventure, full of magic, beauty, and romance as Aladdin faces a wicked sorcerer to save his true love.
Durham Ballet Theatre performances incorporate classical ballet, aerial dance, aerial circus arts, and contemporary dance.
