Join Richard Joyce, conservation biologist with the Xerces Society and coordinator of the Firefly Atlas Project, for an evening exploring the world of fireflies.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Education Center with a brief outdoor introduction covering the role fireflies play in ecosystems, the importance of natural darkness and tips for observing these remarkable insects. Afterward, participants will head out into the nature trails to watch for fireflies and learn more about their behavior and habitat.
Children ages 10 and up are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
Program Note: Participants should wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes for being outdoors at night. If you have a headlamp or flashlight with a red-light setting, feel free to bring it (not required).
