Looking for a fun (and delicious) summer activity? Try blueberry picking!

There are several great spots around the Triangle where you can pick your own fresh blueberries, and it’s the perfect outing with kids: easy, outdoors, and oh-so-sweet. Most local farms open their blueberry fields in June, but timing can vary a bit depending on the weather, so it’s always a good idea to check before you go.

Here are some top blueberry picking farms around Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and beyond!

Blueberry Hill U-Pick – Sanford

📍3250 White Hill Rd, Sanford, NC 27332

Opening Friday May 23rd! Blueberry Hill U-Pick is a family-owned farm offering a delightful berry-picking experience with multiple varieties.

Hours:
Tuesday–Saturday: 8am–5pm
Sunday: 1pm–5pm
Also open Memorial Day

Neighbor Boy Farm & Country Store – Apex

📍1008 Davis Dr., Apex, NC

Blueberry picking begins Mid-June. This is such a cute little farm in Apex. There’s even a play area for kids. We went here last year for Christmas trees!

Smith’s Nursery – Benson

📍443 Sanders Rd, Benson, NC 27504

Just south of the Triangle, Smith’s Nursery is worth the short drive. They offer U-pick blueberries as well as blackberries and other summer fruits. Don’t miss the on-site ice cream and farm animals!

U-pick season for blueberries usually starts in early to mid-June.

Herndon Hills Farm – Durham

Located in South Durham, Herndon Hills Farm is a peaceful, pesticide-free farm offering blueberries (plus blackberries and muscadine grapes—yum!). This scenic farm is a great pick for a relaxing morning with kids.

Mini Acres Farm offers a delightful pick-your-own blueberry experience just outside Raleigh. The farm features a charming setting with a wooden pavilion, a pond with a fountain, and friendly miniature donkeys and pygmy goats. Wendell Blueberry Farm – Wendell

Wendell Blueberry Farm is a family-run U-pick operation located about 20 minutes from Raleigh. They pride themselves on offering 100% all-natural blueberries grown without pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals. The farm’s season typically runs from June through August, with picking days varying based on berry ripeness.

Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm – Cedar Grove

Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm is a family-owned farm located northwest of Hillsborough in Orange County. They are also affiliated with  the adjacent business Botanist and Barrel cidery.

U-Pick blueberries will open for the season at Cedar Grove on Saturday June 22nd.

Bahama Bluebs – Bahama

This blueberry picking farm lies on the outskirts of Durham in the town of Bahama. A well-established one-acre field contains 5 varieties of delicious bluebs, ripe for the pickin’. Opening soon for the 2025 season. Typically open mid-June through August.
