Mom Groups in the Triangle: Play Dates, Meet-Ups, and More!

Amy Hartle

When you’re a new mom, finding a local Mom group can be life-changing. We all need community so badly, and getting plugged in with fellow Moms going through it is a Godsend.

It’s not just for new moms and moms of babies, either! At every stage of motherhood and childhood, connection and friendship are invaluable.

I have seen so many Moms ask where they can find their people, wondering where to find other moms of littles, or just wanting to get out of the house and make new Mom friends.

To help other Mamas navigate this, I’ve put together a list of Mom Groups in Raleigh and the Triangle. These include play date groups, Moms Night Out-focused groups, networking groups, and more. And of course, many are inclusive of all parents, not just Moms!

We’re blessed to be in an area with many resources and opportunities for parents and kids! Try out different groups and see what resonates.

Know of another Raleigh Moms group I should add to this list? Get in touch!

PS: There are even more great general Women’s Groups around the Triangle, but for the purposes of this post I’m specifically focusing on groups for Moms/Parents.

Thrive Motherhood

Thrive Motherhood welcomes all moms—whether they work full-time, stay at home, run a business, or juggle a bit of everything.

The group’s mission is to support mothers in discovering their unique skills, strengths, and passions. Through a strong sense of community, Thrive Motherhood empowers moms to thrive both inside and outside the home.

Thrive offers a variety of events for all types of moms, including playgroups all across the Triangle, mom-only meetups, and networking events. They also put on community festivals a few times a year.

This is a group I’ve been part of personally, and have attended multiple events. It’s a great group of women!

CHALK Moms

CHALK Moms is a very-active Facebook group of local Moms getting together with their kiddos. The name stands for Cary Holly Springs Apex Little Kid MOMS, so events tend to be based in those general areas.

The calendar is filled with play dates every week and there are tons of things to do for just the moms, as well. From book club to game nights to brunch and networking meetups, there is so much going on. Check them out!

Durham Mothers Club

The Durham Mothers Club is a support network for all moms in Durham, North Carolina and surrounding communities. The club was founded in 1988 with the mission of Friendship – Support – Education. We are proud to provide all three and more to our members!

Whether you are a new mother, new to the Triangle, or just looking for some fun activities, the DMC has plenty to offer you. This group has playdate events, Mom gatherings, and more. They are very active. Take a look!

Meet.Play.Love

This local mom group is run on Meetup and seems super active!

Their mission is to create a welcoming, fun, and inclusive space for mommas and tots to meet, play, and love. Activities are geared towards moms with kids 6 and under.

“We’re a group of mommas who are passionate about supporting each other through life’s many twists and turns, while providing our children with a happy, warm, and safe place to play and thrive.”

Mom League

Mom League is an 8-week structured program for moms of newborns. This is an educational and support group as well as a social opportunity. Babies should be 0-12 weeks old at the start of the series.

Mom League has sessions in Raleigh and has just started offering in Durham as well. If you’re looking for a place to connect in those early days of motherhood, this might be it!

Babies and Cold Brew

This mom and babies group meets once a month at Piney Town Playhouse in Fuquay-Varina.

From the website:

This is a FREE event for parents and their young babies (under 12mo). The group will be lead by Courtney Miller and Amanda Linderman both RN and IBCLC. Both are lactation consultants at The Better Boob Lactation.

Courtney and Amanda will be available to answer general feeding questions as well as have their infant scales to do weighted feedings. Casual group setting to discuss challenges and victories with your new role as a parent. Breastfeeding not required but always welcomed. Coffee and snacks available for purchase

Triangle Area Parenting Support Group (TAPS)

This group was built on the notion that parents need a village of support. Well, here is that village! Triangle Area Parenting Support Group offers programs in both English and Spanish, which is a great resource for the community.

In addition to one-off workshops and sessions, they offer their popular Newborn PEPS Groups: Twelve weeks of support for parents with babies age 0 – 6 months.

HER Circle – HER Health Collective

Moms often get buried by their roles as mother, wife, daughter, friend, employee, and colleague. HER Health Collective was created to provide a safe space and trusted resources for ALL moms. HER Circle offers access to exclusive members-only events, resources, and discounts at our Perk Partners.

I haven’t gotten the chance to check out this group myself yet, but I’ve heard from several women that this group has had an incredible impact on their lives. Definitely worth looking into! PS: their membership is in high demand and is currently on a waitlist.

Mom 2 Mom – Cross Assembly

This church-based group is designed for mothers with young children, offering a space for fellowship, spiritual growth, and encouragement. The program includes guest speakers, small group discussions, and one craft and one service project each semester. It follows the MOPS curriculum model. Childcare is provided for preschool-aged children and younger. The total cost is $65 ($15 registration fee, $25 fall fee, and $25 spring fee). Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 9:30 AM.

North Wake LILY Moms

LILY Moms, which stands for Life in the Little Years, is open to all moms who are currently loving, struggling, or just surviving life with little ones between birth and kindergarten.

They offer play dates, mom meetups, and more.

They aim to provide an open, accepting atmosphere where the specific and significant needs of today’s mothers of little ones are addressed, including friendship as well as tips on child-rearing, marriage, and managing your home and your personal life – physically, emotionally and spiritually!

The years of raising little ones offer that odd combination of pure fulfillment and utter frustration! In this high stress period of a mother’s life, she goes through a wide range of emotions: joy, excitement, isolation, loneliness and exhaustion! What’s a mother to do? Come join! No one should journey through this season alone.

Wee Play!

Wee Play is based on MeetUp and Facebook.

From their page: “We are a meetup group geared toward engaging our children in fun, age appropriate activities! You can expect events such as park playdates, story time, picnics, in-home playdates, visiting local play spaces, and so much more! We have events that are happening all over the triangle, so come on out and play! We welcome all parents with children from birth up to kindergarten, however older siblings are always welcome to come anytime!”

More Ways Moms Can Meet Moms in the Triangle

Mom groups are far from the only way to connect with other moms in the area! Here are a few more ideas for you:

  • Classes

Swimming, dance, music, nature… there are dozens of class options for young children around the Triangle, and these are an excellent way to meet other parents. We have a whole list of local classes here.

  • Story Time

Every library in the area offers fun and free story times throughout the week and weekend. Even some of the local bookstores offer these. This is an excellent free option for connecting with fellow moms and kids!

Check out Wake County Public Library Story times here
.

Check out Durham Public Library Story Times here.

  • Indoor Play Places

I’ve met quite a few mom friends at local indoor playgrounds! These tend to be easier than outdoor playgrounds for having a conversation. There are dozens of indoor playgrounds throughout the Triangle you can check out.

  • Parks and playgrounds

Although it’s not always the easiest to strike up a conversation, parks and playgrounds are crawling with parents and kiddos! Your next mom or dad friend could be right next to you near the sandbox!

  • Our Facebook Group!

Facebook is also an excellent place to build new connections. You might just meet some fellow Moms and Dads over in our Facebook group: Kids Activities & Events in Raleigh and the Triangle
