Birthday Party at Rainbow Party Room in Raleigh – A Mom’s Review

Amy Hartle

We had our son’s first “big” birthday party this year, for his 3rd birthday. We chose The Rainbow Party Room at Rainbow Play of North Carolina, located in Raleigh. This was an absolutely perfect choice for 3rd birthday party, and I want to tell you all about it, because I think it’s a great spot!

The Space

The Rainbow Party Room is hidden away inside an amazing kids furniture store: Rainbow Play of NC. This locally-owned business sells indoor furniture for kids, plus kids gear like strollers, and they specialize in wooden playground equipment. You’ll see a bunch of playgrounds outside upon arrival.

The party space is to the side of the store, a separate and private space. It is outfitted with one of their signature playsets, plus a smaller toddler play area. For party amenities, there are several tables, both long picnic style and small bistro tables. There’s plenty of space to spread out your party goodies.

There is padded ground throughout the play space, which is nice and safe for the kids.

Bathrooms are right across the hall outside of the play room.

There is also a hookup for your phone so you can play music of your choosing.

Take a look at how cool this space is! They also offer open play in here during the weekdays, from 10am-2pm Monday through Friday. It’s just $7 per child, so it gives you a great opportunity to check out the party room if you’re interested!

The Details

All their party information can be found on their website, including pricing, but here’s the information at a glance:

Weekday Parties – $200
Time Slots Available: 2:30pm-4:15pm, and 5:00pm-6:45pm

Saturday Parties – $350
Time Slots Available: 9:30am-11:15am, 12:00pm-1:45pm (this is what we chose), 2:30pm-4:15pm, and 5:00pm-6:45pm

Sunday Parties – $350
Time Slots Available: 12:00pm-1:45pm, 2:30pm-4:15pm

You can have a total of 80 people at your party, which I think is quite a large capacity!

Want to have a magician, princess, or face painter? Those are welcome, and they have a list of vendors they recommend, too.

You can bring your own food and drink. We ordered Papa John’s pizza and it was delivered right to the room and waiting for us when we arrived.

Why We Loved It

Picking a birthday party spot can be a challenge. There are so many options and packages to choose from.

What we liked about the Rainbow Party Room was the simplicity of it. We like to DIY parties, and this was a straightforward option, bringing our own food and some simple decor.

We also didn’t feel the need to go all out with decorations. This is not the best option if you’re looking to set up elaborate balloon structures or other decor, but for us, that was not a priority, so this was ideal.

We felt this was a perfect space for a 3 year old’s party. Malcolm had guests from toddlers up to age 8 and all of them enjoyed this space tremendously. For the parents, we LOVED that we knew our kids were in an enclosed, safe space. That made the party far more enjoyable for us compared to an outdoor location or place where it’s easy to lose sight of them.

For that reason, I definitely think this would be a great birthday party space for kids 3-6. That’s what I perceive as the sweet spot. Even older kids will have fun, as our older guests did, but older kids might be ready for a spot like a trampoline park or other more “wild” fun.

We put together a video showcasing our party experience, too. You should check it out to see the place in action!

Other things we loved:

  • Large capacity meant we could invite lots of friends and family
  • Privacy! No other parties going on or outside guests
  • Easy access to restrooms
  • Plenty of table space
  • Air conditioning and knowing we didn’t have to worry about rain or weather!
  • Helpful staff
  • A cart provided to help you bring in your items
  • Good party time (1 hour 45 mins was perfect)
  • Easy to keep track of kids in the room
  • Ability to play our own music
  • Easy/ample parking

Definitely consider this space when booking your kids birthday party in the Raleigh area. And tell them Raleigh Family Adventure sent you!
