As spring rolls in and the sun warms up the earth, there’s no better time to indulge in one of the sweetest traditions around: strawberry picking! And there are many great places to go strawberry picking in Raleigh NC and in the surrounding Triangle towns.

Page Farms

Page Farms offers a delightful strawberry picking experience with a scenic backdrop. They typically open for strawberry picking season in late April to early May. Their hours during the season are Monday – Saturday 8AM – 6PM but check Facebook for daily updates. They have flowers and vegetables as well.

DJ’s Berry Patch

DJ’s Berry Patch is a family-owned farm known for its juicy strawberries. Visitors can enjoy picking their own strawberries and exploring the farm’s picturesque surroundings. The season here typically lasts from mid-April through late May.
PS: They have some cute photo opps where kiddos can stick their face through large wooden strawberries.

Porter Farms & Nursery

Porter Farms & Nursery is a popular destination for strawberry picking near Raleigh. A family farm, Porter Farms has 2 locations: one in Raleigh and one in Willow Spring. They’ve also got fresh produce and ice cream!
Porter Farms hopes to have strawberries available for picking into June, and they will also have PYO blackberries beginning in June, too!

Smith’s Nursery and Strawberry Farm

Smith’s Nursery and Strawberry Farm, situated in Benson, NC, is worth the drive from Raleigh or Durham. With rows of plump, juicy strawberries ready for picking, it’s an ideal spot for a family outing during strawberry season. This is my personal favorite spot, as they have a play area, farm animals, and more. It’s so lovely!
Current Hours: Monday – Friday 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday 9 am to 6 pm, and Sunday 10 am to 5 pm
Hunts Strawberry Farm

Hunts Strawberry Farm is a family-owned farm that has been offering strawberry picking for generations. They pride themselves on their high-quality strawberries and welcoming atmosphere.

Lyon Farms

Another top spot to go strawberry picking in the Triangle! Lyon Farms also has pre-picked strawberries and other veggies available.

Grasshopper Farms

Grasshopper Farms, nestled in Knightdale, offers a delightful strawberry picking experience for visitors. With their well-tended fields and abundance of ripe strawberries, it’s a fantastic spot for families looking to enjoy a day of outdoor fun and berry picking.
Grasshopper Farms also offers ice cream, an awesome playground with a sandbox, and other family fun. Definitely worth checking out! (See our video of the playground here!)

Eno River Farm

Eno River Farm offers strawberry picking in a stunning countryside setting near Durham. Visitors can enjoy picking strawberries and exploring the farm’s beautiful surroundings. They often have food trucks and other events, so be sure to check their calendar. Also, hours sometimes vary, so following them on social media is a great idea.

Waller Family Farm

Waller Family Farm is a picturesque family farm in operation since 1943. In addition to offering strawberry picking, they are a working farm, so there is often produce, fresh eggs, honey, and more. For hours, check their Facebook page or call 919-225-4305.
McAdams Farm
📍1100 Efland Cedar Grove Rd, Efland, NC 27243
McAdams Farm is a bit outside of the Triangle proper, located west of Hillsborough. But worth a visit to this peaceful rural setting. Plus, they are kind of an institution, having been farming in North Carolina for over 135 years!

Po Hous Farm

Strawberries are usually in season late April through the end of May, depending on the weather. Po Hous offers the option to pick them yourself or to buy them prepicked at the produce stand.
They are generally open 7 days a week unless we are picked out. It’s always best to check Facebook or Instagram for weather updates and availability.

Heeks Farm
📍3602 Hall Rd. Rougemont, NC 27572
Heeks Farm is a pick-your-own strawberry farm located in Rougemont, NC, about 20 minutes from Durham. They also offer other PYO fruits and veggies, all grown using sustainable farming practices.
Like the other farms on this list, it is recommended to check their social media pages or call before coming out, as hours and availability can change.
Pope’s Strawberry Farm
📍 1305 Fayetteville St, Knightdale, NC
A beloved local farm. Recent visitors report huge, juice berries! During picking season, check their Facebook page, as they provide daily updates.
Buckwheat Farm
📍 2700 Holland Road, Apex, NC 27502
Buckwheat Farms harvested their first strawberry crop in 1998, and they’ve been growing ever since. They’ve earned some significant accolades, including “Best of the Triangle” by Independent Weekly in 2008. Owner Karma Lee was also the first woman to be named “Grower of the Year” by the North Carolina Strawberry Growers Association.
Their strawberry season also includes fresh ice cream, and–on the weekends–BBQ and hot dogs. Check their Facebook for their latest updates and current hours.
Pace Family Farms

This family-owned and operated farm is located in Clayton/Archer Lodge, NC. In addition to some cool events going on at the farm, they offer Pre-Picked and U-Pick Fresh strawberries, from mid-April to around the second week in June.
