Garden Storytimes are a great way for families with preschool children to experience the garden. You’ll start with a stroll through the garden with the Children’s Program staff and volunteers to see what’s happening in the gardens, read a few children’s books with a garden twist, and go home with a garden-themed craft created by your little one.
Parents and caregivers stay and participate with their children in the activities. Program begins at the Bobby G. Wilder Visitor Center. Come dressed for the weather as this program is held outdoors. Activities are moved to a sheltered location in the event of rain.
Nature Tales: Itsy Bitsy Spider – NC Botanical Garden (Chapel Hill)

This story will be out in the gardens from Saturday, October 4 until Sunday, October 12 during garden open hours.
Not familiar with Story Walks? Story Walks are self-guided experiences where pages of a book are displayed in the garden. Information about where to find the title page is posted at the Visitor Center. Once you find the first page of the story in the garden, you’ll see the next page and be able to follow the story as you stroll through the gardens. There is no set time to start this experience and can be done at your own pace. Most stories can be experienced in about half an hour to an hour.
The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
Hike with a Naturalist: BASIC Birding during Fall Migration – Yates Mill (Raleigh)

This time of year is the peak for fall migration of birds in our area, as millions of birds travel south for the winter. Come prepared to hike at least a mile on natural surfaces by wearing close-toed shoes and bringing a full water bottle. Binoculars are recommended, but we have a few we can loan out as needed. Suggested for ages 8 and up. Registration is required for all family members, and children must have adult accompaniment. Please arrive at the park office five minutes early for program check-in. FREE.
*Please note that this 8:30 a.m. hike offers an opportunity for beginner birders with little-to-no experience to learn. (The 10:30 a.m. hike later in the day offers an opportunity for experienced birders.)

Triangle Barkitecture takes over Downtown Cary Park with custom pet architecture, adoptable animals, and a full day of tail-wagging fun to support local rescues. This pet architecture competition features over 20 unique builds by architects and designers from the Triangle, all up for auction with proceeds benefiting Hope Animal Rescue, Mia’s Mafia, and Perfectly Imperfect Pups.
Enjoy activities like the Kitten Cuddle Room by Connie’s Kittens, a free Howl-o-Ween Pet Costume Contest, a pet food and litter donation drive for SAFE Haven for Cats, live music, local vendors, and adoptable pets from over seven rescues.
